‘GOTTA GET THEM COINS…’ [Unreal Engine 5, 3D platform, whitebox]

I've been playing around with Unreal Engine 5 to improve my skills as a game and narrative designer. While I’m working on my Unreal Fellowship: Games course, I started this tutorial with Hour of Code.

Working on this 3D platformer, has been both enjoyable and educational. Utilizing assets and guidance from the Hour of Code activities, I've delved into:

  • Basic gameplay mechanics

  • Metrics

  • Level design

  • Gameplay flow

  • Continuous testing and iteration

GAMEPLAY:

Looking ahead, I’m going to work on these:

  • Improve gameplay flow.

  • Expand the game’s environment to include indoor areas.

  • Audio, SFX, and music. Right now, the silence is deafening!

  • I plan to integrate story elements to enrich the gameplay experience. As a narrative designer, I'm eager to explore how character development and storytelling can enhance level design and overall gameplay, making the experience more engaging and enjoyable. I don’t think I have the assets to do voice recording so all the narrative elements will be with text (thought balloons maybe [toasts, prompts]?)

This journey has been instrumental in bridging my narrative expertise with interactive design, and I'm excited to continue this exploration.
